DJI - Comparison to main competitors

As one of the leading drone manufacturers in the market, DJI is sure to have it's fair share of competing brands. And based on research gathered by Skylogic Research in 2018, DJI's main competitor would be Yuneec.

The research revealed that DJI owned 74% of the drone market share, whilst Yuneec only owned 5%. But that's not to say that Yuneec is an inferior brand. Yes, it may reveal that DJI is the go-to drone brand, but Yuneec still has a fair share of similar features.

Let's compare the 2 leading drone manufacturers.

One of the main uses of drones is to capture images and video footage from unique aerial views. So it may be important to some to have a drone with good camera quality. The highest quality DJI drone would be the DJI Phantom Advanced, DJI Phantom 4 Pro, and the DJI Inspire 2, all with 20 megapixels and 60 fps. Only one Yuneec drone matches these qualities, that being the Yuneec H520.

Another quality that is looked for in a drone is the speed. DJI still had the upper ground on this one, with their fastest drone being the DJI Inspire 2 with a max of 58 mph. The fastest Yuneec drone is the Yuneec H520 with only 38 mph, only 7 mph faster than DJI's slowest drone, the DJI Spark.

When it comes to battery life, Yuneec's longest lasting drone would be the Yuneec H520 with a flight time of 28 minutes. However, DJI's longest lasting drone on a full battery is the DJI Phantom 4 Advanced and the DJI Phantom 4 Pro with a 30 minute flight time.

It is no different when you compare the brands in terms of the controller range. Most of DJI's drones has a max controller range of 4.3 miles, whilst the max range of Yuneec drones is only that of 1 mile. That is less than the lowest controller range of a DJI drone (The DJI Spark has a controller range of 1.2 miles).

Yuneec 1 mile

Probably the most important feature to compare the 2 drone brands would be the price. It is no secret that drones are expensive pieces of technology.

And the price is the only feature where Yuneec wins. The cheapest Yuneec drone costs $250 for the Yuneec Breeze, whilst the cheapest DJI drone is the DJI Spark costing $550. However, there is 2 more DJI drones that costs less than $1,000 (the DJI Phantom 3 costs $800, and the DJI Mavic Pro costs $900). So there is more of a cheap price range when it comes to DJI.

When you compare the 2 leading drone manufacturers in the market, DJI and Yuneec, it reveals that DJI has better qualities in a number of areas. So in my opinion, it is no shock that DJI owns over 70% of the drone market.
